Gas Piping
Gas piping is similar in many ways to water piping. Unlike water piping, only a
professional and certified plumber should install in-house gas piping. While a leak in water piping can cause
you some trouble, a leak in gas piping can be deadly.
There are two types of gas pipe systems, high-pressure and
low-pressure. In a high-pressure
gas pipe system, smaller pipes transport gases to various appliances in the
house, such as a furnace or water heater. Low-pressure gas pipe systems use larger pipes to transport gases to
other appliances.
Since gas pipe leaks can be fatal, it is important to test
the joints if you suspect a leak. This can be done using testing soap (found at any plumbing supply
stores). Apply the soap to an
inexpensive brush and then apply to the fitting. If the fitting produces any bubbles, the joint most likely
needs to be remade or replaced.
