Hose Bibs
Hose bibs are found on the outside of almost every home and tend to get a lot of regular use. Hose bibs (sometimes called outdoor taps or water spigots) are basic valves, which control the flow of water. There are many types of valves, such as
ball and gate valves, but the hose bib makes use of a globe valve. It operates very simply.
In the valve, a rubber or neoprene washer is attached to a handle, which when screwed down, covers the opening to the supply and the water is shut off. Because of the durability of the valve, the flow of water can also be manipulated, making hose bibs more similar to
faucets than ball or gate valves.
With time, however, and because of the hose bib's outdoor location, the metal can rust and the rubber washer inside will deteriorate. This will be cause for a replacement. Rainforest Plumbing & Air technicians always have hose bibs on-hand and carry with them the experience needed to fix them. Give us a call today at
